I fell into motorcycling at 16 years old. A neighbor was selling an old cruiser for $200, and I needed transportation. As I hauled it home, mostly in boxes, I questioned my transportation decision. The first time someone laughed and told me I would never be able to get it running, let alone ride it, I was hooked. I became more determined. I rode that bike in rain, cold, sleet, and sunshine. I also pushed it along the side of the road too many times. My next two-wheeled purchase was at 18. It was a CBR600, and from then on, sportbikes became a true passion for me.
At 19 years old, I was blazing down the highway on my CBR600 at well over 100mph. I looked up to see state troopers blocking the highway. A quick glance over my shoulder told me that I was in big trouble. I immediately stopped, with no less than six police cars behind me. A couple of the uniformed men were absolutely furious; I thought they would throw me in jail. All of them left but the troopers. I couldn't believe my ears when one of them said "I'm going to get into trouble for this, but I'm letting you go." I considered myself lucky, and have since (mostly) kept my high speeds to the Bonneville Salt Flats. After a nasty crash in 2007, I went back in 2008 to set some records.
I currently hold the fastest record on a motorcycle of any woman in the world. I have set Bonneville SCTA, AMA and FIM World records on both my turbocharged 2002 Suzuki Hayabusa and my 2008 Honda CBR1000. I became the first woman to earn inclusion into the prestigious Bonneville 200 MPH Club on a conventional motorcycle.
Goals for me in 2009 are simple: go faster! With help from Al Lamb's Dallas Honda, WPS, Fieldsheer, World Wide Bearings, Falicon, Air Tech, Arai Helmets, PMR Components, Spider Grips, Swiss Performance, PMP sprockets and support from Heads Up and APEX, I expect to better my previous record-setting performances. My dedication to two wheels is not limited to racing. I own and operate High Five Cycles, a used motorcycle dealership in Dallas, Texas. |
