Name: Robert Fisher Robert Fisher is the only returning builder from last year's list — in part because he won the professional class of the 2009 Boz Bros Custom Bike Show.
The public voted for their favorite customized Yamahas at the manufacturer's vendor area at both U.S. stops of the MotoGP series. Two Roaring Toyz custom bikes accumulated the most points. The first was a turbo-charged R1 with a 360 rear wheel conversion, spinner wheels, custom paint, LEDs and a bunch of other goodies. The second was girl's bike: an R6 painted pearl white, pink and silver with flower designs. "It was a really neat bike," Fisher says.
For winning, Fisher received a new Yamaha FZ6R to customize. His creation will be on display at all stops of the Cycle World International Motorcycle Shows. Many people don't connect custom bikes with MotoGP, but Fisher's win at the venue is fitting: He himself is a prolific AMA racer who is no stranger to the podium. He says his prepping of race bikes empowers him as a builder. "A lot of builders don't understand the fundamentals," he says. "That's where I think we have an advantage, is we understand how the motorcycle functions well beyond just throwing parts at it. That shows through in our part designs. ... At the end of the day, my perfect dream motorcycle is going to work really well and at the same time look beautiful." And just like in AMA racing, Roaring Toyz is a team effort. Fisher credits his machinists, mechanics, painters, salespeople and business partners, and even the motorcycle magazines. "Everybody blends into this thing," he says. "Everybody is part of the team, making this stuff happen and helping to grow this industry."
Fisher says Roaring Toyz continues to thrive due to hard work and product development (two or three new products per week). "Not only myself but my entire staff are true motorcycle enthusiasts, he says, "and we work 24/7. For us, this isn't a job where we come in at 8 and go home at 5. And myself, not having kids or a wife, Roaring Toyz is basically my family."
